Kerchief! Er, bless you.

My niece Georgia showed up these holidays wearing headscarves. And so headscarves it was! Or kerchiefs. Or bandanas. Whatever. They're very Sound of Music and all popping-out-to-the-berry-patch, so we made some appropriate ones. Four in fact, for the four resident under-sevens. (Henry declined.)

Tilly helped. So helpful. She got busy sorting out the pins on the pincushion waiting for a turn to make the sewing machine go, and accidentally pressed down on the pedal and very nearly sewed my index finger to the second headscarf.

After a VERY CAREFULLY AUTHORISED turn of the pedal, she took up measuring instead which didn't really help me turn up one straight corner or actually make a single headscarf that fitted any child. Ivy is wearing hers as an apron.

But the girls politely declared that they would grow into them. The Lyden cousins are half English, and have really very lovely manners. They graciously agreed to be photographed in a high wind on a hill, which given their slight frames and the fact their only ballast was Tilly, was frightfully sporting.

They only very nearly blew away.

Before they gave it up, and trundled in for sandwiches.

Anyway, it didn't really matter, Tilly and I had lots of fun and I have an index finger on my left hand without a sewing needle through it so that's terrific news.

Hope you're needle-free too, and that someone one day makes you a set of matching headscarves.

Cousins are the best.
