school holidays

Turns out I've carried my love of school holidays into adulthood, now that I have a school-aged person in the house.

There's something about the rhythm of term-time receding into a break that is good for everyone. Gives us a sense of re-charging.

It has been totally wonderful having Adam off work for these holidays, because if my energy flags, he's all go go go – let's get out and do stuff! And so we are.

The kids fall into bed at night and Ivy is still only waking up every three or four hours so our eyes aren't falling out of our heads as those of parents of newborns often are. Very grateful for this break.

Sydney Park today, one of the coolest parks in Sydney (and damn you've got to love a park that has a kiosk making good coffee!!)

Thanks for the link to the park, it looks awesome. You kids might like the newly done pyrmont point park at the end of Harris st. It’s similar looking but with harbor views! And there is coffee. Gotta pay the parking meter though

Thanks Renee, someone else mentioned that park to me too – we’ll go and explore it!

School holidays are very healthy. I find I start off loving them, but unless you go away, or one’s Adam-equivalent is off work, by the end of the 2 weeks I am guaranteed to have one day where I think to myself “it is time you lot went back to school before one of our clan commits homocide on another of our clan”. Having 2 parents off work is fantastic….. enjoy it!

We did go to a very big and lovely park called the Dubbo Western Plains Zoo last week, fantastic to go around on bikes, and even the child who isn’t that into animals adored the flying fox (a very cool one)! You tend to think zoos are for kids, but they are actually great for adults too, I always surprise myself how much I enjoy it.

PS- congratulations on the arrival of beautiful Ivy. My 3rd child also just slept and fed… don’t fall for my mistake of interpreting this as my having figured out motherhood, and therefore going for the 4th….. he was the worst sleeper of all!
