what not to wear

I'm going to the Aussie Bloggers Conference next weekend. Really very excited about it. I booked it when we still lived in Sydney, so except for a few logistical issues mostly fixed by a fabulous friend with a car space in the city and my partially weaned baby, we're good to go.

Funny though, I keep seeing conversations on Twitter and other blogs about what to wear, about shopping and new shoes and haircuts.

If I can stop myself cutting my own fringe we'll be ahead.

Really, though, no one's going to be looking at my jeans, that's for sure.

I know some of my readers are bloggers, but I actually think the great majority aren't, and won't be part of the 170 delegates at the conference. (Are you? Tell me if you're going! I'll be the one with the bad hair and really old shoes.)

I tend to think that bloggers, particularly mum bloggers who this conference is catering to, are pretty monumentally unjudgemental. I think if you're wearing vegemite, no one is really going to care.

I'm not just excited about meeting two particularly favourite bloggers, Kate and Tricia, but also because the whole thing about blogging is about sharing a story. Talking over the back fence. Connecting. I'm thinking the plenary sessions will be awesome.

I won't be wearing a baby for the first time in eight months.

I won't be wearing heels, or a brand, or anything particularly well thought out.

I won't wear my yoga pants. I won't wear my Blundstones.

I'll aim to not wear vegemite.

I will be wearing a smile.

Looking forward to meeting 169 other bloggers who all hit 'publish' with a story that they feel like sharing.

If you're going, I look forward to meeting you. I have absolutely no interest in what you're wearing and every interest in what you have to say.

PS If you're interested, here is a list of the delegates. Lots of fabulous Aussie bloggers!

Sounds like fun! But how many Aussie Mum’s wear vegemite every day thanks to their little ones? I enjoy your blog (your sister S put me onto it) and look forward to waking up to it each day (I live in the US). I especially like to see what adventures Tilly is having LOL! Your adventurous spirit in both cooking and sewing inspires me. Thanks.

Have a fantastic time Fi!!

These days when I go out sans kids (rarely, but enjoyably!), I enjoy dressing up a bit but only because it makes me feel a bit ‘human’ if you know what I mean – a person in my own right as well as a mum. It’s like a little taste of the old carefree life.

Looking forward to reading a post on the conference when you return (please 🙂 x

yes I’m on the list and going! a bit nervous as most of my readers and blog readers are crafters rather than mummy bloggers but it should be fun! I must admit though I had a total makeover a few weeks ago and so I have a choice of 3 outfits to wear but can’t bring myself to wear heels with them so have settled on a wrap dress and flat shoes! normally I would wear black pants and a top and flats but I’ve decided to make it a bit fancier:)

I’ll be scanning everyone’s name badges and hoping people will say hi to me too

see you there:)

I’ll be there… wearing the (very much not even close to being weaned LOL) baby and the matching baby vomit! And so looking forward to meeting you!

March 11, 2011 at 10:09 pm

I’ll be wearing a sponsor shirt that hopefully doesn’t have baby spew on it 🙂

March 12, 2011 at 12:00 am

Gosh! I haven’t even thought about what I’m going to wear, let alone hair cut and new shoes!? I’m just looking forward to meeting a whole bunch of mums that enjoy blogging as much as I do. My ‘real life’ friends don’t really get it.

And shucks, you are so sweet. I’m looking forward to meeting you too 🙂

This is great! I wish you a fabulous time meeting and connecting with the other mamas at the conference, how fun to be able to meet in person in real time!

And yes, I concur, that the blogging bunch (at least the crowd I hang with) is pretty nonjudgmental, and it is much more about support and listening and affirming each others’ stories!

Thanks for a great post!

sounds like you’re ready and really excited! I’m hoping the room is really cold because I’m excited about wearing my knitwear – just because autumn is coming and I love it!

March 14, 2011 at 10:14 pm

oh wow, have a great time everyone! maybe i’ll get there next time….
oh and thanks SO MUCH for the list of blogs – no more early nights for me then with so much to read.p
